Staff/ Team Development

Team: noun: a number of persons associated together in work or activity.

What makes a good team is commitment. For a team to be successful, everyone has to do their part. When I think of team, I flashback to my traveling softball team. It took each and everyone of us to win a game. Whether we were the pitcher, or just a pinch runner, we played a role in the success. Without any one member of the team, we would have failed. It is very important that each and every one if us were committed to attending practice regularly and attending every game. Softball is very much a team sport. We ran as a team, we batted as a team, and we played defense as a team. One thing that most people did not see, was the many hours of practice that we put in together. This was the behind-the-scenes work that contributed to our success. We were a family, and when one person needed help, we were there. If one team member decided one day that she was simply going to quit, or stop coming to practices, the entire team would suffer. I think one thing motivated us to put in every ounce of effort that we did, was the accountability we had to one another. We knew that if we slacked, the team would suffer.

When I think back to our very first practice, I would consider our group as an unsuccessful team, but through the years of commitment and bonding that we had, we all learned to become a family and to work together through the passion that we had in common.
